The Secret Chief and MAPS
Dear Dr. Shulgin:
I'm looking at a book by Myron Stolaroff, which has your signature, and your wife's, and that of Myron and Hofmann. I would love to hear a response. --Ken
Dear Ken:
The book you are looking at is called, The Secret Chief, and it is the story of a most courageous and skillful psychologist, the person who effectively introduced MDMA into the medical arena of psychotherapy. The earliest LSD studies evolved from the research of Stanislav Grof and later from the explorations of other courageous Canadian and East Coast physicians who accepted and employed psychedelic drugs into their medical practice. But it was the "Secret Chief" who spread this "drugs and therapy" concept around the world.
I believe some 100 copies of this remarkable book, in hard cover, were numbered and signed in 1997 by Myron Stolaroff himself, by Albert Hofmann (the inventor of LSD), by Ann and me, and by Grof. These were offered as incentives to contribute to the
MAPS organization (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) and this group is the publisher and the distributor of this limited edition of "The Secret Chief." It is from them that these copies can be obtained, and one should write to them for further information. Their current address is 2105 Robinson Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34232.
They deserve recognition and congratulations for being one of the major financial funders of clinical studies in this area.
